How to Discuss Your Failures in a Job Interview

This Fast Company article has some great advice for professionals embarking in job interview. This seems to relate directly to the business workforce, but the advice here is sound and applies as well to medical professionals. As a doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner, how would YOU answer this question:

“What has been a moment of significant professional disappointment or failure, and what caused it?”

Would you blame someone else for your failure, or would you own it? As a company that interviews and hires medical providers every day, we agree with this hiring manager’s point of view regarding this job interview question: Taking ownership of a problem is the starting point for finding a workable solution to that problem. By answering thoughtfully and honestly, you are likely to demonstrate that you’re a problem-solver and you don’t shy away from accountability.
