Feel Good Friday: Stop the Gossip!
While you may think that a little gossip from time to time is okay, if you are not careful, it can quickly become a bad habit. Gossiping, especially in the workplace, can be harmful to you and those around you. So, can you give up gossiping for one day? We believe that you can! Check out the steps below to get started.
Ways to Keep Yourself from Gossiping:
- Ask yourself if it’s necessary to repeat the information. If you are only doing so to make yourself feel better, or to be the center of attention, then you shouldn’t bother.
- As previously mentioned, not all gossip is bad. But you have to learn to differentiate between innocent gossip and the type that can harm others. If it can potentially ruin someone’s reputation, be the bigger person and decide against it.
- If someone comes to you to gossip, find an appropriate response. You can simply change the subject or explain to them you do not feel comfortable discussing the topic.
- Finally, disengage. If you are with a group of people that are gossiping, excuse yourself from the situation. You have the power to walk away and decide to not become involved in it.
