Is the US Facing a Doctor Shortage?

According to a report published in March by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the United States may face a shortage of between 46,000-90,000 primary and specialty physicians by 2025. In particular, a 2013 report from the Robert Graham Center shows that North Carolina will need 1,885 additional primary care doctors by 2030.  This can pose a great risk because the supply of doctors may not grow as quickly to meet the ongoing need in healthcare, particularly for the growing and aging population.

While these predictions are certainly grim, is there anything that can be done to prevent this shortage from occurring? To find out more, visit The Washington Post’s website to read more about this topic.
