Wellness Wednesdays: Ways to Prevent Back Pain While at Work

Do you find yourself hunched over a computer for the majority of the day? If so, you probably have experienced frequent back pains. But no need to worry! Listed below are a few changes to your work style to help relieve your back pain, courtesy of Health.com.

  1. Keep your head up. With many people working on computers while at work, our heads and necks tend to be positioned downwards. Instead, focus on aligning your head and neck right about your shoulders; avoid straining forward as well.
  2. Be choosy with your office chair. It is important to select a chair that “allows your lower back to rest against a lumbar support.” You should then “tilt the back of the chair so it’s very slightly reclined.”
  3. Plant your feet on the ground. To reduce the tension in your ankles and knees, you should focus on keeping your feet flat on the floor and shoulder-width apart.
  4. Stay within reach. Make sure that your torso is arm’s length away from the monitor, which “is about 2 to 3 inches above eye level.”
