Multi-State Nursing Licensure
To expand access to quality healthcare, many states have passed laws allowing a nursing license from one state to be accepted in other states. The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) and the more recent Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) enable travel nurses to work in many locations without the burden of obtaining individual state licenses.
Currently, more than 40 states are part of the eNLC. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing maintains a map of all NLC states. Click on each state for details:

If you have a “compact license” from a state that participates in the NLC or eNLC, you are eligible to practice in other compact states. The eNLC is for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). Legislation is working to make multi-state licensing more accessible for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs).
Applying for multi-state licensure must be done through your board of nursing.
