Wellness Wednesdays: “Clean Eating” Has Become an Obsession
I am sure you have noticed that more people are becoming committed to eating healthy and living a healthier lifestyle. However, recent studies are showing unhealthy consequences with “clean eating” because people are cutting out major foods sources causing them to become malnourished. Some experts are calling it “orthorexia nervosa,” and individuals with the illness exhibit “symptoms of recognized conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorder or end up losing unhealthy amounts of weight, similar to someone with anorexia.” It begins when someone has an interest in living healthy and gradually develops to an “increased anxiety about eating food that is contaminated or deemed unhealthy.”
